Like I said before, speedskating--both short and long track--is like horse racing on skates. Skaters go at up to 40mph (64km/h) around left turns like madness with at least two skaters, but I've seen as many as 20 skaters in Torino 2006 because one of the teams were DQ'd in one of the two semifinals taken place earlier. In the individual skate race, that can be like the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes and all the Breeders' Cup races all wrapped into one on an ice rink or an icy oval in such distances as the 500m, 1.0km (5.00 furlongs), 1.5km (7.50 furlongs), 3.0km, 5.0km, and 10.0km (1-7/8, 3-1/8 and 6-1/4 miles repectively) both individual and relay and not to mention the team pursuit.
